When Irving Ackerman came to the Philippines, he was already a veteran in international investment brokerage. He had spent 11 years working for International Trade, which required him to travel and conduct business in the Far East, South and Central America, and Europe. A man that would be behind many firsts in the Philippine investment market, Ackerman started his career in the Philippines in 1958 by beginning and writing the first Stockmarket Column for the Manila Times, up until 1967, expertly juggling this with his duties as General Manager for Allied Investment Co., Inc. Manila from 1961 onwards. Talented and driven, his star in the industry continued to rise. In 1963, he became the Managing Partner of Ackerman & De Castro (Stockbrokers). He did not stop there. Armed with the industry and management experience, Ackerman, in 1970, ventured out on his own to start I. Ackerman & Co., Inc. (Stockbrokers). Most significantly, above all his other accomplishments, Irving Ackerman went on to become one of the founding members of the Makati Stock Exchange, where he served as a Treasurer until 1994 and a member of the Board of Governors until 1995.
All throughout his career in the field of investing, Irving Ackerman published numerous magazine and newspaper articles concerning investments and Stock Exchange Activities. He also regularly conducted seminars throughout the Philippines on the Philippine Stock Market and its operations, and its importance in the economic life of the nation.
